Izzie's First Swim
Izzie had her first swim this afternoon. The park where I took her for a walk has a small pond containing goldfish. Put one curious five month old poodle puppy on the bank of said pond within paw's reach of an especially large and juicy-looking goldfish and what do you get? One very wet, cold (air temp about 2 deg C) and shocked bundle of fur who probably won't be going swimming again anytime soon. When I got her home I dried her off, gave her a bowl of warm soya milk, wrapped her in a blanket and stuck her inside my fleece against my fat gut where she took fully 20 mins to stop shivering. By then she was also asleep, and soft dork that I am I let her remain in that condition, still huddled up against me in her blanket, for the ensuing two hours. At least I had my IPod handy to stifle the boredom. When she woke up she acted as if nothing untoward had happened and was up to her usual kinds of mischief within minutes.
